Overview
This project explores the design of a candle and matchbox packaging system that caters to sustainability, functionality, and storytelling. WanderLight was inspired by the idea of transporting users to different destinations through scent. Each fragrance is paired with a carefully considered visual identity, packaging structure, and descriptive copy to reflect the mood and essence of its origin. The packaging was developed using a kraft rectangular handle box, designed to securely house both the candle and matchbox while emphasizing eco-friendly materials and minimal waste. This project pushes beyond conventional box structures with experimental dielines, sustainable material choices, and storytelling. The final outcome is a packaging system that reflects both innovation and functionality for the consumers.
Sketches + Process

With all packaging design projects, sketches are an essential to develop different ideas visually. My sketches allowed me to explore different structures, placement layouts, and visual directions before moving into digital design. Through quick iterations, I experimented with how the candle and matchbox could be securely housed together. These drawings also helped me visualize the relationship between graphics and structure,to make sure that the branding and scent storytelling would integrate seamlessly across all sides of the package. By sketching multiple options, I was able to refine my ideas, eliminate weaker concepts, and move forward with a design that felt both innovative and functional.
First Draft + Mockup of The Packaging Dieline

For my first draft and mockup of the packaging dieline, I tried to focus on translating my sketches into a functional structure that could fit and secure both the candle and matchbox. The goal was to create a sustainable + durable rectangular handle box. In this stage, I explored the proportions of the dieline, ensuring that the candle and matchbox would fit comfortably while maintaining a clean and minimal form. I also tested different flap placements and locking mechanisms to guarantee stability and ease of assembly. This step bridged the gap between concept and physical prototype which allowed me to identify areas of improvement before moving into the final design iterations.
